Propaganda and Information Operations in Georgia

In the first quarter of this year, ISFED monitored propaganda media outlets and anonymous pages operating on social media, which revealed consistency between the messages they disseminated and the rhetoric of “Georgian Dream“. These pages openly supported „Georgian Dream“, discredited groups critical of the party, actively spread the anti-Western “Deep State” conspiracy theory, and circulated statements against certain European states, Western ambassadors, and European politicians.

Social media monitoring also identified instances of Russian information manipulation and interference. During the reporting period, Russia conducted two major information operations through an anonymous network on Facebook and the Georgian-language website of the Russian PRAVDA.

Both the anonymous network run from Russia and the PRAVDA ecosystem spread the message that, like the former US administration, Western funds and the European Union were funding destabilization and revolution in the country. The Russian network accused Western countries and diplomats of attempting to interfere in the internal affairs of Georgia and put pressure on the government, including by referring to sanctions.
