2013 Presidential Elections

Second Pre-Election Report (July 20 - August 4)

The pre-election campaign became active during the reporting period. ISFED monitored 40 meetings held by parties and their candidates with public. Regrettably, the reporting period was marked by acts of violence against political opponents during primaries of the United National Movement (UNM), as well as individual cases of abuse of state resources, campaigning by unauthorized individuals (one case) and hindrance work of a representative of monitoring organization (two cases).

Registration of presidential candidates and initiative groups with the Central Elections Commission (CEC) is now underway. Registration of holders of dual citizenship has proven to be most problematic.
