Initiatives implemented within the framework of the project "EMPOWERING NEW GENERATION OF LOCAL CIVIL SOCIETY LEADERS IN GEORGIA"

Technological development 

  1. “Teknovatsia” 

Project Implementer: Luka Chitiani 

Within the framework of the "Technovation" initiative, the public school of Kursebi village of Tkibuli municipality was given basic electrical equipment, which will be integrated in the information and communication technology class. The goal of the project is to raise the awareness of the students about the STEM field. It also aims to increase the interest of the students in the mentioned direction. This technology was integrated into the learning process and an open lesson was held. It was well received by the participants. 

The initiative was implemented by Luka Chitiani, a graduate of the civic education workshop, with the technical support of ISFED and the financial support of Black Sea Trust, a project of the German Marshall Fund of the United States within the framework of the ongoing project "Empowering New Generation of Local Civil Society Leaders in Georgia" 

 

 

Non-formal education, Raising the awareness of young people 

2.“The role of Youth in elections" 

Project implementer: Angelina Kobelian 

Within the framework of the initiative “The role of the Youth in Elections” a training was conducted with young people living in Ninotsminda municipality. The main topics discussed were democracy, civic engagement in local self-governance, participation in elections.  

The participants also had the opportunity to play the board game "Electoral Associations" created by ISFED with the financial support of the Government of Canada.  Players must explain election-related terms, concepts and professions through drawing, pantomime or speech. 

Also, active participants wrote essays, from which the 5 best authors were given "Biblus" vouchers as an incentive.

3. Conflicts and our reality" 

Project implementer - Eka Khitarishvili 

Within the framework of the "Conflicts and our reality" initiative, a two-day training course was held in Vale, Akhaltsikhe municipality. Young people aged 14 to 18 were involved in the project, who received information about conflicts and their types. Together with the trainer, they discussed the ways of conflict peaceful resolution, solved conflict situations with the help of simulation activities. The participants also analyzed the 2008 Russia-Georgia war and drew a parallel with the war waged by Russia in Ukraine.

4. "Citizen's Hour”  

Project Implementer - Giorgi Papashvili 

Within the framework of the "Citizen's Hour" initiative, informal meetings for young people were held in Telavi. The purpose of which was to create a precedent for an environment of informal education and salon conversations, and to raise the awareness of young people in terms of citizens' involvement in civic processes. The project helped to identify active young people in the region, who became citizen engagement peer- educators.

5. Awareness of the Youth and Promotion of Civic Activism 

Project implementers: Ana Abuladze, Nino Akubardia, Bakur Khubulava 

The goal of the initiative was to inform young people living in Zugdidi municipality about the following topics: Environmental protection, human rights, women empowerment, the importance of youth involvement in the implementation of local self-governance, civic activism, fair elections, the role of democracy in state building. 

The format of the initiative, instead of traditional training-seminars, provided information on the mentioned topics to the participants through fun quizzes and games. Young people aged 14 to 29 participated in the quiz in 18 teams from town of Zugdidi and various villages of Zugdidi municipality. 

The authors of the initiative hope that the active involvement of the participants and, in general, the interest of young people in intellectual-cognitive games will help them implement a similar activity in their own circle of friends, school, village, city and transfer the knowledge gained.

 6. "Youth for Civic Changes" 

Project implementer: Giorgi Ghugunishvili 

The initiative "Youth for Civic Changes" was implemented in Chiatura Municipality and the local private, public and non-governmental sectors were actively involved in it. The initiative included various types of activities: an essay contest, within the framework of which Internet company "smartnet" gave a 200 GEL voucher to the winner. 100 and 50 GEL vouchers were awarded to the second and third place runner-ups, respectively. As a result of the essay competition, the selected participants were trained on the following topics: environmental problems, leadership qualities, strengthening of the civil sector. As a result of the initiative, local leaders were identified and an initiative group was formed, which will actively work on issues of local importance together with the local non-governmental organization "Chiathura of the Future". Also, books were given to the library of Khreiti village of Chiatura municipality. A video about the tourism potential of the village was created with the financial support of "Chiatura of the Future”.

7."Raising women's awareness about labor rights" 

Project implementer - Magda Shushtakashvili 

Within the framework of the initiative "Raising women's awareness about labor rights", an information meeting was held for women under 25 living in Rustavi. Within the framework of the meeting, together with the invited lecturer, the participants discussed the labor legislation of Georgia, discrimination and sexual harassment at the workplace and the mechanisms of protection of labor rights. The meeting had an interactive character and the participants were actively involved in the discussion of the issues. At the training, through short documentaries, examples of different countries in terms of labor rights were shown, followed by sharing of impressions and discussion. The project contributed to raising the awareness of employees and spreading information about practical mechanisms for protecting their rights.

8. "Strengthening of female entrepreneurs in Sachkhere Municipality" 

Project implementers: Nino Macharashvili, Tornike Nadiradze 

Within the framework of the initiative, female entrepreneurs and women interested in entrepreneurship living in Sachkhere municipality received information about green and social entrepreneurship, legal forms of entrepreneurship and registration procedures, local and international funding programs. The participants got to know successful women entrepreneurs from different regions of Georgia and heard examples of successful activities; They also received some practical experience in a project proposal writing and drawing up a business plan.  

The participants had the opportunity to receive detailed information about the startup program from the representative of "Bank of Georgia". Also, the representative of USAID YES-Georgia introduced the women's entrepreneurship support program. The representative of the organization CENN spoke about the importance of green entrepreneurship, and the head of the Social Entreprise Alliance Georgia delivered information about social entrepreneurship. Within the framework of the initiative, a self-help group was also created in order to continue future relations. 

In the second stage of the implementation of the initiative, the project implementers bought the products produced by the participating entrepreneurs and gave them as a gift to the day care center of Sachkhere.

9. "The Youth of Tela village of Lagodekhi municipality Together for a Healthy Environment"  

Project implementer - Mariam Gelashvili 

Within the framework of the initiative "The Youth of Tela village of Lagodekhi municipality together for a healthy environment", 2-day information meetings were held with students of Tela village of Lagodekhi municipality. The main goal of the information meetings was to raise students' awareness on the environmental topic. The students were provided information about the types of environmental pollution, the consequences of waste pollution and methods of combating against this problem such as waste sorting. After the information meetings, a greening campaign was organized and coniferous plants were planted on the school territory, garbage boxes were placed for waste sorting. A cleaning action was held with the participation of young people, the plastic bottles collected by the students were handed over to the factory for recycling. The initiative helped raise awareness of the importance of waste sorting policies among young people. 

After the implementation of the initiative, the Eco Club at the school, which participates in Niko Ketskhoveli competition, expressed its readiness to actively implement ecological activities, including the delivery of waste paper, which is one of the important components of waste sorting.
