ISFED reacts to the release of a private video of a politician

International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy reacts to the release of a private video of a politician.

We believe that release of such videos, especially ahead of the elections in 2016, is an attempt of blackmail against politicians, political parties and other subjects.

ISFED believes that the responsibility for the release of the private video falls on the authorities, despite when the video was recorded.

Current authorities have stated on numerous occasions that the destroyed the so-called “secret recordings” but the video footage released recently proves quite the opposite. If the footage was made after the current authorities came into power, it clearly means that the authorities continue to manipulate with private lives to exert influence through blackmail.

Today’s video clearly confirmed allegations and suspicions voiced by politicians and other individuals that secret recordings continue to exist.

We urge the government to take legal and political responsibility for the private video released today.

ISFED urges media outlets not to release the secret recordings and to show respect for an individual’s right to privacy.
