Executive Director

International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) is an independent, non-partisan, membership-based, non-governmental organization, founded in 1995.

ISFED carries out a mission to support democratic development in Georgia and beyond, through ensuring government oversight, increasing government’s accountability, citizens awareness and supporting democratic reforms.

Strategic areas of ISFED’s work include: improving electoral processes through election observation, in-depth research, development of legislative framework, and voter education; protecting the rights of citizens and combating discrimination on political grounds through the legal aid program; fighting against disinformation and manipulation of information to reduce malign influence on electoral and political processes; strengthening of local self-government, supporting decentralization processes, and the increase of citizen engagement; Supporting the integration of Georgia into Euro-Atlantic structures.

Upon the expiration of the term of the current Executive Director, ISFED is announcing an opening for the position of Executive Director according to organization’s charter, and is seeking an experienced and qualified candidate to lead the organization. Executive Director is selected by ISFED Board members for a 1-year term and reports to the Board. The Board is entitled to appoint the same person as an Executive Director for 4 consecutive terms.

Executive Director is responsible for management of the organization. She/he shall ensure implementation of ISFED’s long-term strategy, goals and objectives, as well as fundraising for ISFED’s programs, building and maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders.

Key functions and responsibilities:

  • Leads the organization in accordance with its goals and the strategy;
  • Is responsible over operational management of the organization;
  • Manages ISFED’s day-to-day activities;
  • Manages (coordinates) ISFED’s programs;
  • Supervises ISFED’s staff, creates their work descriptions, provides their oversight and evaluation, ensures delegation of responsibilities among ISFED staff and transparency of their work;
  • Coordinates activities of ISFED’s regional structural units;
  • Represents ISFED with governmental, non-governmental and international organizations and institutes, donors, media and public;
  • Manages ISFED’s assets and is responsible for their proper use;
  • Signs ISFED’s official documents, including financial documents;
  • Issues orders and decrees that are binding for all employees of ISFED;
  • Reports annually to the General Assembly about ISFED’s work plans and the status of their implementation;
  • Reports on a quarterly basis to the Board about ISFED’s activities and future plans;
  • Fulfills all other functions as required by ISFED Charter and assigned by the Board.

 

Desired qualifications:

  • Higher education, preferably in the field of Social Sciences, Public Policy Management, Law (Master’s degree is a must);
  • At least 5-year experience of working in the areas of democracy, elections, human rights, good governance, rule of law, or other related fields;
  • At least 3 years of managerial experience in managerial position - preference will be given to candidates with managerial experience in non-governmental and international organizations;
  • Knowledge of election environment in Georgia, international standards and experience;
  • Sound understanding of Georgian political landscape;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Fundraising and project proposal writing skills;
  • Media and public communication skills;
  • Experience of working with international institutes and structures;
  • Ability to travel throughout Georgia and abroad for work;
  • Fluency in Georgian and English;
  • Candidate should not be affiliated with any political party and may not have any history of involvement in politics;
  • Strong trust in democratic values.

  3. Vision of ISFED’s strategic development. The document should describe potential challenges the organization might face and how those challenges should be addressed. The document must be submitted in both Georgian and English languages, with maximum length of two pages each.
